About:

Raised in the Greater Pittsburgh area, Aimee Heinnickel studied Studio Art and Art History. With a focus on painting and drawing she explores changing identity through abstract portraiture. The work collages her own drawings with different painted elements.  Inspired by the 1950s Abstract Expressionist movement and the celebration of paint as a material and building texture on the surface. Heinnickel focuses on the reactive process of layering materials, lending to a creation of her own language of mark-making.

After moving to Boston in 2018, she began working in Interior Design which shifted observations to our environment and the sensory experiences they create. Landscape paintings emerge as the mark-making began a metamorphosis, translating to a different subject matter. The question of what is ‘natural’ arises as she fuses landscapes and portraiture through a sporadic rhythm of mark-making.  She currently lives and works in Boston Massachusetts.
